The Oblate Family Morning Prayer: Monday 16th December 2024 With Kathy Barclay
Good morning friends. We invite you to join Kathy Barclay for today’s morning prayer on Monday of the third week of Advent, December 16th. This week, the members of the Parish of St Mary’s, Star of the Sea, Leith, will lead us in our morning reflections.
Gospel | Matthew 21:23-27 ©
‘I will not tell you my authority for acting like this’
Kathy reflects: ‘In our reflection of the gospel today the narrative Jesus is questioned about the source of his authority by the temple elders, people who themselves occupy positions within the hierarchy of authority. As is his frequent custom., Christ refuses to give them any direct answer. In doing this, he declines to enter into the snare which is being set. He refuses to divine himself and therefore refuses to limit himself, for Jesus is not interested in claiming or praising his authority or status. He prefers to encourage and console rather than to control or command…’
Thank you for joining us this morning.
