Morning Prayer with the Oblate Family, Tuesday October 11th With Patsy Thomas
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to morning prayer. Today, we are joined by Patsy, from Anglesey.
Today is the optional memorial of Saint John XXIII, who opened the Second Vatican Council – where today we remember the 60th anniversary.
The Gospel reading today is from Luke, where a Pharisee invites Jesus to dine with him. He was surprised that Jesus didn’t wash before eating. Jesus explains the importance of “washing” the inside, as well as the outside.
Jesus challenges us to re-think our priorities. The ritual of washing was clearly more important to the host than to Jesus; they had different priorities. Jesus changes the priority to almsgiving, to loving others. May our priorities reflect the Lord’s own priorities.
Thank you for joining us this morning.
