Oblates Chat with Jane Mellet of Trócaire about Laudato Si’ #jpic

Care for our Common Home

Jane Mellet works as the Laudato Si’ Officer with Trocaire (the overseas development agency of the Catholic Church in Ireland) and the Laudato Si’ Movement.

Her role involves promoting Pope Francis’ encyclical, On Care for Our Common Home, with grassroots faith communities in Ireland.

How can faith groups engage in climate actions and respond to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor? Laudato Si’ gives us the blueprint.

In 2018 Jane participated in the Climate Pilgrimage walking 1,000km from Italy to Poland for the UN Climate talks (COP24). She describes it as an eye opener!

She was also the Project Co-Ordinator of ‘Our Common Home’, the eco-project of the World Meeting of Families in 2018, which carried the message of Laudato Si’ to a wider society.

Prior to that Jane worked as a parish pastoral worker in the Archdiocese of Dublin, including the Oblates in Inchicore and has many years of experience working in religious education, pastoral ministry and development education.

Her interests include… theology, ecological spirituality, eco-justice, scripture, activism, pastoral (and practical) theology, adult faith development and lots more.

In her spare time you’ll find her on the mountains or on the yoga mat or if it’s Friday – at the Dail (Parliament) for “Fridays for Future”, demanding the government take action on climate change.
