Morning prayer with Mary Murphy, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception With Mary Murphy
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to morning prayer with Mary Murphy, from the Legion of Mary, on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary.
From the beginning, Mary showed faith and trust in God. Unlike us, who might like time to consider the words of the angel Gabriel, Mary immediately put herself at the service of the Lord. She set out in haste to visit her cousin Elizabeth who was preparing for the birth of John the Baptist. During the three months they stayed together, they surely contemplated many things and probably wondered what plan God had for their children. Mary accepted whatever the Lord would send, even though she knew there would be difficult times ahead.
Today, as the Church in Ireland and in Europe is going through a tough time, it is for all of us to return to Mary and ask her for guidance and faith to help us in our apostolate for souls. In a recent letter from Pope Francis to the legion for the closing of the Centenary, he encouraged all of us as follows: In this regard, may you always seek to imitate your heavenly patron, Mary Immaculate, in steadfast generosity and trust in divine providence.
May you all have a happy feast of the Immaculate Conception and pray that Mary will enhance our faith.
Take my hand O Blessed Mother,
Hold me firmly lest I fall,
I am nervous when I am walking
And on thee I humbly call.
Guide me over every crossing
Watch me when I am on the stairs,
Let me know you are beside me
Listen to my fervent prayers.
Bring me to my destination
Safely every single day,
Help me with my undertaking
As the hours pass away.
And when the evening falls upon us
And I fear to be alone,
Take my hand O blessed Mother
Once again lead me home.
