Taking Part in the 2nd OLAC 2022 in the Anglo-Irish Province Living As Oblate People
Taking Part in the 2nd OLAC 2022 in the Anglo-Irish Province of Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales and the district of Denmark
Covid-19 changed how we think and act both locally and globally and in the Oblate family, we seek to leverage the challenges and the opportunities that the pandemic has brought us.
As Pope Francis has said, we are a People of God, and we must make our voice count! We welcome the 2nd Oblate Lay Associations Congress taking place from May 27 through to May 29.
The Lay Congress includes the continents of Africa, Asia Oceania, North America, South America and Europe, numbering 68 countries where the Oblates and Oblate people are present. We recognise that the Oblate charism is of its time.
The theme of the Lay Congress is “Living as Oblate people.”
So, you may be asking yourself who or what does this Oblate person look like?
Here are a few examples:
Being an Oblate person is a gift from God, held deep within our hearts, and it compels us as parents, as single people, as Oblate Brothers, Priests and Sisters, to develop a connection with the powerless and voiceless, to adapt ourselves to using new technologies by which we can communicate the charism effectively. We recognise this Oblate connection as a positive, dynamic energy that impacts our faith and daily lives. It reveals itself through simple processes such as listening, being close to the people especially in areas of isolation and abandonment.
The Oblate person seeks to nurture and develop a wonderful sense of deep joy through sharing the love of Christ, sometimes, as simple as a smile.
Being an Oblate person to each other in a complex, changing world can save lives, being Christ – present in crisis moments! The Oblate person is a person of faith, aware of Christ’s indwelling spirit. It comes alive at moments of personal encounter such as journeying with people close to death. The Oblate person responds to who they are called to be, an Oblate, bringing God’s love into those moments of sacred encounter.
So you see, the Oblate person is you and me! ‘We are stronger together’ as an Oblate family. The Congress is about exploring what it is to be an Oblate person and learning how to deepen that experience and commitment.
We encourage you to join the online Congress that will be streamed live each afternoon from Rome from 1:00pm to 4:00pm and in this way allow you, yourself to participate with the rest of the worldwide Oblate family.
Groups will be gathering at the Oblate Retreat Centres in Crewe and other locations. For further details of the Crewe event, please contact Mary Tyrrell of the Central Working Team and Oblate Partners in Mission by email at the following address: mpt@thetyrrells124.plus.com
We don’t want you to miss this amazing opportunity to connect with other Oblates, like you! Remember, your voice counts!
