High Tea at English Martyrs Tower Hill
“Good company, great food and a sing-song too.”
During October 2019 – the month of mission as requested by Pope Francis – the Friends of St. Eugene in Tower Hill had organised another meal for local people. It was a follow up to our successful Christmas Lunch event and once again aimed at those over 55 in our community.
Our first High Tea Party went off really well. One of the attendees spoke for all those who came along by saying “It’s good the ‘East End community in London’ can come together in love and friendship”. Our guests enjoyed an afternoon of finger-sandwiches, scones and cakes, tea, coffee and a little prosecco!
The local authority – Tower Hamlets had also provided financial support for this, and future events, as part of its programme to encourage the development of support networks for older residents in our borough.
For the Friends of St Eugene who volunteered to put the event on, it was an afternoon of joy and service. On being asked by the guests, “when is the next one?”, we were delighted to be able to answer “Soon!”
