Advent a time of Hope: Daily Morning Prayer and Reflection, November 29th With Fr Dominik
Friends, please join Fr Dominik in Our Lady of the Wayside Parish for morning prayer together on this first Monday of Advent as we reflect on the gospel reading from today’s mass where Jesus hears the prayers of the centurion…
We read about a Roman soldier, a pagan, who comes to seek Our Lord’s aid.
This pagan understands who Christ is better than the Israelites. As Our Lord himself says it : “in no one in Israel have I found such faith.” He understands that Christ has the power to rule over life and death.
In fact, the faith of this centurion is so great that he has not even brought his ill servant with him, nor does he want Christ to enter into his house : he knows that a single command, a single word of Christ is enough to heal his servant
When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him,
saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.”
He said to him, “I will come and cure him.”
The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. – Matthew’s Gospel
May we have the faith and humility to acknowledge that we need God’s grace, so that we, too, may sit at the heavenly banquet one day.
