Digital Pilgrimage Day 4 – Join the Lourdes Pilgrimage in Prayer Tuesday 17th September
‘Blessed are the Poor; the Kingdom of God is theirs’
Through these Prayers and Reflections, we join our prayers and intentions with those of our Pilgrims in Lourdes. As we accompany them and pray for them, we are assured that they are praying for us.
Today in Lourdes our pilgrims will celebrate and take part in mass at the Grotto.
It was at this Grotto on February 11th1858 that Mary appeared to young Bernadette Soubirous. When one looks at the many other places that Mary appeared there is a pattern. She always appears to those who are not powerful rich, influential or important in the eyes of the world. In Guadalupe, Mexico, Our Lady appeared to a young woman Juan Diego in 1531. In Knock Ireland, Mary appeared to 15 local people on August 21st, 1879. In Medjugorje on June 24th. 1981 Our Lady appeared to 6 local children. But these and many others to whom our Lady has appeared, are treasured and loved by God above all else.
Bernadette opened her heart and life to what God asked of her and what God wanted to do through her. Can we look to young St. Bernadette and follow her example? God did and is still doing amazing things through St. Bernadette and Lourdes; what miraculous things is God asking of each of us this very day?
If we could open hearts and lives to God as Bernadette did, think of the difference we could make in the world today.
Prayer Suggestion: During your own personal prayer today, spend a little time thinking about the life and example of St. Bernadette. Pray to her asking for her help and intercession that you too may open your heart and life to God and say with faith and confidence; ‘Speak Lord, your servant is listening’.
