Morning Prayer for February 22nd With Rebecca Roughneen

Good morning everyone, and welcome to morning prayer with Rebecca Roughneen, from Ireland.
During the Lenten season, we are asked to do three things: to pray, to fast and to give alms. These traditions, which we hear about in today’s Gospel, predate the time of Jesus. And, just as in the Old Testament, where these practices were to help the Jews prepare for the coming of the Messiah, these practices help us too.
Now, during Lent, they help us prepare for the resurrection of Jesus from the dead at Easter. The ashes many of us wear on our foreheads on Ash Wednesday remind us that life is larger than our individual experiences of it. The ashes remind us of the fragility of our lives and that we are not on this earth forever. Rebecca goes into more detail.
Thank you for praying with us today.
