Morning Prayer January 6th, Feast of the Epiphany With Olga Slater
Good morning friends, happy feast day of the Epiphany of the Lord!
We join Olga Slater in London. She reflects on the gospel where we hear that Jesus reads the prophecy of Isaiah from the scrolls in the Synagogue. Some parts of the world have already celebrated the Epiphany on Sunday last, and in some countries, the feast of the Epiphany enjoys almost the same prominence as the celebration of Christmas.
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.”
In Ireland and the UK, we celebrate the Epiphany today, and in Ireland, we also celebrate “Little Christmas” or “Nollag na mBan” (Women’s Christmas). The Epiphany marks the visitation of the Magi, or as we might know them, the “Three Wise Men”.
Today let us thank the Lord for all the blessings in our lives that seem ordinary, but are in fact extraordinary.
Thanks for joining us today and wishing you a very happy feast day.
