Morning Prayer: The feast of the Assumption of Mary With Mossie Lyons
Mary was assumed into heaven. Mary was a person, the same as you and me. But what stood out in the ordinariness of this woman’s life? It was to her human ordinariness, her vulnerability, that Simeon spoke to, when he said “a sword of sorrow will pierce your heart” when she presented the infant Jesus at the temple. He knew, that as the mother of the Son of God, Mary’s life was not going to be easy, that there would be great pain. And Mary pondered his words in her heart, remaining constant, loving and reassuring.
Mary’s constancy, love, reassurance – that’s the message of Mary, the woman, the mother – the mother of Jesus and our mother too.
We join Mossie again this morning for our prayer. Thank you for joining us today.
