Morning Prayer, Wednesday, August 19 with Pádraig Corcoran
With gather for our Morning Prayer reflection today with Pádraig Corcoran who leads our Oblate Youth Service.
Pádraig reflects on today’s Gospel (Mt 20:1-16) where we listen to the Word of God as Jesus tells us the story of the vineyard owner who goes out many times during the day to find workers and then, at sunset, pays all of them the same. It is a scene that in human eyes is so unfair. However, this parable is about seeing through the eyes of God, not human eyes. God loves us all; he treats us all fairly. With God, it is not about the time of the day when we turn to Him; it is that all of God’s love is there for us no matter when we go to Him.
Pádraig finishes his reflection by reading a poem from a friend of his. The last few verses go as follows:
In the evening I was tired and grim
I didn’t stand tall, or hide my limb
I just stood, as I was, nothing to hide
When he chose me, I nearly criedI worked very hard, despite my crutch
Imagine my surprise to get paid so much
He didn’t give me what I was due,
He gave me so much more, so kind and true.It didn’t matter I was lame and small
He made me feel ten feet tall.
I wondered what sets him apart
He clearly has so much love in his heart
All that is asked of us is to remember that we just need to go and turn to God. He will do the rest.
