Morning Prayer with the Oblate Family: February 14th With Caroline in Cumbria
Good morning friends.
Today Caroline Shevelan presents morning prayer from her home in Cumbria. In today’s gospel reading we hear the words:
“The Pharisees came up and started a discussion with him; they demanded of him a sign from heaven, to put him to the test. And with a profound sigh he said, ‘Why does this generation demand a sign? In truth I tell you, no sign shall be given to this generation.’
Jesus sighed – a very human and real response to when we encounter a stressful or not ideal situation. The phrase speaks volumes about what Jesus thought of this line of testing and the skepticism of the Pharisees. It is no accident that we breathe deeply or sigh when we are stressed or disappointment. His sigh of weariness is all too familiar with us in 2022 as Covid 19 remains a presence we are all profoundly tired of. What is going on with you right now which might cause you to offer a profound sigh and ask why?
Thanks for joining us in prayer today.
