Morning prayer with the Oblates, December 14th With Fr Liam Griffin OMI

Friends, good morning. We join Fr Liam Griffin OMI in the Oblate Community Chapel, Inchicore for our prayer. John the Baptist is a one of the central figures of the Gospel during Advent. In today’s reading, we see John was in prison and has perhaps begun to doubt who Jesus really was. The one who was to come was understood to be an Elijah figure who would usher in a new day of judgment, a time of great rejoicing for the people.
And yet, Jesus was not like that. On the contrary, Jesus drew the poor. He drew the sick. Throughout history, there has always been a temptation to want God to be in our own likeness, someone who is on our side, someone who provides us with answers on tap. But Jesus says that he will always be found among those who are poor, those who are struggling, and those who are on the margins of society.
Thanks for joining us this morning.
