Morning Prayer
Oblate Family Morning Prayer: Friday December 29th 2023 With Rebecca from Oblate Communications
Good morning dear friends. You are very welcome to this Oblate morning prayer on the 29th of December.
For Christmas week, we join some members the Oblate Parishes of Inchicore/Bluebell for morning prayer. Today, we join Rebecca Roughneen for this morning’s prayer.
Today the feast day of Saint Thomas Beckett, or St Thomas of Canterbury is celebrated in England and Wales. He is venerated as a saint and martyr by both the Catholic Church and the Anglican Communion. In Today’s scripture we hear of the story of Simeon who, filled with the Holy Spirit, shared with Mary and Joseph what the future held for their tiny, infant son. The gospel said that Mary and Joseph wondering about the thing Simeon said. Surely they as parents must have been worried particulary by this line “he is destined to be a sign that is rejected” – rejection, something we all fear and try to avoid, and certainly no parent wishes for their child.
In these uncertain times we might pray for our own courage, to be more like St Thomas Becket, speaking the truth with love, even if it is difficult to do so. We pray for an increase in and strengthening of our faith, like Simeon, who never stopped believing that God would make good on his promise to him.
Thank you for joining us today.
