Video: The Social Oblate Praying for vocations on the 17th of the month
Each month on the 17th, the Oblate family prays in a particular way for an increase in vocations to our community, the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Join Fr Dominick from the Oblate Communications Team for this month’s episode of the Social Oblate and a reminder that the Oblate Novena for Vocations takes place each year from the 21st to the 29th of May, when our whole community around the world prays together with this intention. Hello dear Friend!
Yes, you are absolutely right! It’s the 17th – the particular day when the whole oblate family prays together united around one intention: vocations!
For the last two months we have had amazing opportunities to meet for the fist time, the oblates working in the United Kingdom. Fathers Johnson and Irvin. These two missionaries shared with us their life experience as well as particular answers for vocation discernment.
We heard what actually vocation means for them, how they discovered their way of life or what is the most important in the life of missionary, oblate and priest.
By the way if you haven’t seen these videos yet – look for it and meet these oblates personally!
Now, I want to announce a big event! Next month the whole oblate family is going to celebrate and pray for vocations during our Novena.
First of all, you can wander what the Novena is?! Well, Wikipedia says this is the way of prayer for the next nine days. There are many Novenas in the Catholic world: you have Novenas to Our Lady of Knock, to Our Lady of Lourdes, Little Flower Novena, Divine Mercy or novena before Christmas. We as the Oblates also have our own!
Oblate Novena for Vocations occurs at the special time! We begin our prayerful week on May 21st – the day when our Saint Patron – Eugene de Mazenod – died. For the oblates gathered that time around the bed of their dying founder, it wasn’t a day of despair but rather the time of thanksgiving for their cherished Eugene.
What about us? Beginning on the 21st of May (until the 29th) we’re going to be thankful to the Lord for what we have already received from him: I mean the beautiful and 200 years old worldwide Congregation. We are also going to put our trust in the Lord for the bright future.
So, invite your friends, oblate brothers and sisters. Let us all unite in the holy nine days of prayer for Vocations.
And at the end, let’s do what is the most important today: let’s pray for the new vocations to the priesthood, religious life and first of all to our missionary Congregation – Oblates of Marty Immaculate.
Lord God, You called St. Eugene de Mazenod to send forth missionaries to proclaim and live the Gospel among the poor.
Increase our love, we pray, for those who are most abandoned.
Extend your loving call to many young people in our communities and grant them the desire to give of themselves, their lives and talents to the service of Jesus Christ and the Church.
May our young people answer your call as Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate to serve those who are in need.
This we ask through Christ Our Lord. Amen.
