The Oblate Family Morning Prayer: Monday 17th June 2024 With Pat Hughes
Today, we invite you to join Pat Hughes, a member of the Friends of Saint Eugene, for our morning prayer from her home in Birkenhead, England.
Gospel | Matthew 5:38-42
“Offer the wicked man no resistance”
Pat reflects on today’s gospel reading:
“An eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth.” It sounds very simple. Everything sorted? Now get on with your life.
But in actuality, that doesn’t happen. At what point does the retribution stop? What harm is handed down to descendants? You only need to look at all the wars and the unrest in the world now. So Jesus, advocating nonviolence, and actively giving more to an enemy – to anyone who asks, is certainly different and also not easy. Any of you who have been hurt by somebody knows how hard it is to forgive sometimes. But when you do, the weight is lifted. Carrying bitterness within you is a hard task. We pray for peace in our hearts and in the world.
Enjoy the reflection this morning and thank you for joining us.
