The Oblate Family Morning Prayer: Saturday 17th August 2024, Knock Shrine With Rebecca Roughneen
Today, we join Rebecca Roughneen from the Oblate Communications team at Knock Shrine today for Feast day of Our Lady of Knock, Saturday August 17th 2024.
Knock is Ireland’s International Eucharistic & Marian Shrine Knock. On the 21st of August in 1879, 15 people from the village witnessed an apparition of Mary on the gable wall of the parish church. They said she appeared with St Joseph, St John the Evangelist, a lamb and a cross. They watched in pouring rain for two hours, reciting the Rosary, a Marian prayer. Knock is a reminder of the faith that has been passed down through generations.
Gospel | Matthew 19:13-15
Do not stop the little children coming to me
Rebecca reflects: “In the gospels, Jesus always made time for the children, no matter how tired he was from his ministry, or how much he wanted to retreat from the crowds that followed him from place to place. We can imagine that he was patient with them and always had a smile for them, blessing them and answering their questions. Jesus encourages us, his followers, to emulate them in our faith and to welcome them always. This is an important reminder that we adults can learn a lot from their example of faith, in their simplicity and vulnerability, and also in their joy and wonder.”
Thank you for joining us this morning.
