The Role
Due to the expansion of the Oblate digital ministry and the rapidly growing and changing communications landscape, we are seeking to add an enthusiastic and experienced Communications Officer to help us keep growing. Reporting to the Communications Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for creating content, editing and recording videos and supporting all digital channels with the aim of growing our digital ministry across Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales.
The role of the Communications Officer is to work with the Oblate Communications Team to support the work of the Oblates and help to deliver proactive and coordinated external digital communications on behalf of the Oblates through a range of channels. They will be responsible for delivering key projects and activities to help build an informed and engaged range of stakeholders by providing timely and trusted information to a variety of audiences across a range of digital channels in an accessible way. They will also develop the use of digital and social media channels and key print projects to support external Oblate communications and support the development of the mission of the church through the charism of St. Eugene de Mazenod.
QUALIFICATIONS/ ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:
● 2 years experience working with social media
● Understand the best practices of main social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Tiktok etc
● Proficient in creating video and audio content for online platforms
● Superior oral and written communications skills and presentation skills
● Demonstrates a willingness to uphold the values associated with the mission and values of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
● Ability to work autonomously and independently, yet integrate appropriately with other areas of communications and other groups
● Layout / graphic design experience for digital and print
It is desirable that the candidate will have experience in the following areas:
● Hold a Degree in Marketing/Digital Marketing or related discipline
● Keen interest and awareness of social media directions & trends e.g. platforms and products.
● Brand safety experience and monitoring social media feeds.
● Facebook page management and messenger experience.
● Creating content calendars for social media campaigns
● Facebook online marketing and using Facebook Ads Manager.
● Some experience using WordPress CRM and updating websites.
● Understanding principles of SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and SEM (Search Engine
Marketing)
● Experience with other social media platforms, eg Instagram, tiktok etc
● Experience with Email Marketing Campaigns
● Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign, and Illustrator is an asset
HOURS OF WORK & LOCATION:
The standard working week will be 38 hrs to be worked on a flexible basis. The work may involve evening and weekend work. The position will be primarily based in either Dublin or London but will involve travel.
ACCOUNTABLE TO:
The successful candidate would be accountable to the Communications Manager, name Oblate and the Communications Team.
The successful candidate will engage with a number of key groups, including the Missionary Oblates, Provincial Office, Oblate Youth Service, Oblate Mission with Youth, Oblate Vocations, Oblate Centres of Mission, Oblate Partner Groups and other individuals and groups as necessary.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Promotes the awareness of the Christian faith and Oblate charism and spirituality.
2. Assists the Oblates through the use of social media in order to develop a social consciousness
among people, and respond to the needs of and advocating for the poor and marginalised in the
community and beyond.
3. Updates Social Media content such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Youtube etc.
4. Makes updates to the Oblates website
5. Supports the development of online communication strategies e.g. webinars in line with Oblate
mission objectives.
6. Liaises with internal stakeholders to align communication strategies.
7. Participates in the development, publishing and distribution of communications material
8. Engages in all approved opportunities of training, formation and personal evaluation and keeps
updated on current issues in spirituality and in the Oblate Mission.
9. Prepares reports for and attends all appropriate meetings and engages with Oblate and other
structures.
10. Coordinates Oblates and volunteers in designated communications projects.
11. Performs other duties as requested by the Senior Communications Officer or named Oblate.
12. Performs duties in a manner that is consistent with the mission, values, and policies of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
