New Horizons – An Event with Fr Frank Morrisey OMI
The Oblates are please to announce an upcoming two-day event called New Horizons in the Oblate Retreat Centre, Wistaston Hall, Crewe with Fr Frank Morrisey OMI. Some of the topics that will be explored during the event are ‘Building community, nurturing belonging, whose responsibility?’ and ‘We belong to a worldwide church – learnings from the Synod for the Amazon.’
The event begins on Monday, 24th February at 10.30am and finishes on Tuesday, 25th February at 2.00pm. We hope to see you there! Please see below for booking information.

About Fr. Frank Morrisey OMI
Fr. Frank is an Oblate Priest and is a gifted speaker. He has been invited to speak in some 50 countries on matters relating to Canon Law. He also has served as Consultor to Pontifical and Episcopal Conferences in Vatican City and for the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops, not to mention his involvement with numerous religious institutes. He was involved in the preparation of the Code of Canon Law that was commissioned by Vatican II and promulgated in 1983. In more recent years, Pope Francis appointed Fr Frank to the special Commission for the Study of the Reform of the Matrimonial Processes in Canon Law.
Fr Frank was the 2019 recipient of the Catholic Healthcare Association Lifetime Achievement Award. This award is both a recognition and a tribute to Fr. Frank, whose ministry has been to bring hope to those on the periphery through his expertise in Canon Law. We are delighted that he will once more join us in Crewe in 2020.

Building community, nurturing belonging, whose responsibility?
“The faithful are called where possible to worship together in community. Given the acute shortage of priests in some parts of the world, it is necessary to envisage possible new ways of “being Church”, or of living out one’s faith commitment in community. How can the faith of our communities be sustained? What are some of the possibilities we can see on the horizon?”
We belong to a worldwide church – learnings from the Synod for the Amazon.
“Although the Synod of Bishops for the Amazon has particular geographical relevance, the ideas brought forward can apply, with appropriate adaptations, to other local churches. Seven themes were addressed: (1) new pathways for the Church in the Amazon region; (2) interculturality in a missionary context; (3) ministries in the Church; (4) listening to our shared home, the earth; (5) the urban reality of many faith communities; (6) the preservation of water; (7) other issues that arose.”
