‘One is coming after me who existed before me’
 
Ciaran reflects: ‘Strange words in some ways from John the Baptist. It’s very clear that the Pharisees had sent people to trick him, as they did with Jesus Christ himself. They wanted to get him to say something that would incriminate himself, though, that he would claim to be somebody who he wasn’t, that he would say something which would be against the law or against the customs and norms of those days. They were out to get him. They were afraid of him..’
