“The shepherds hurried to Bethlehem and found the baby lying in the manger”

Ciaran reflects: ‘When others are amazed, Mary reflects deeply on the events and this highlights her role as the contemplative mother. On the one hand, aware of the weight of what has happened, but also quietly accepting and trusting in God’s plan, her pondering reveals a profound inward understanding of the unfolding mystery of her son’s identity. After their encounter with Jesus, the shepherds return to their fields, glorifying God. Their experience transforms them into witnesses of God’s glory, showing that an encounter with Christ leads to worship and proclamation.’
